A Family Journey: From Corporate… to Motherhood… to Entrepreneurship

A Family Journey: From Corporate… to Motherhood… to Entrepreneurship

Embracing parenthood and work-life is tough! Even more if you live as an "expat" in a country where your parents nor in-laws are around... We met in luxury hospitality, building careers side by side and growing together across countries and years. Those early years were full of learning, ambition, and long hours — a shared journey that shaped not only our careers but also our partnership.

Then came parenthood — and everything changed. With two little ones only 15 months apart, we faced a new reality: how to balance love, care, and presence for our children while continuing to pursue our professional dreams. He continued in corporate, while I took a leap into entrepreneurship. That decision wasn’t easy — it meant leaving behind a secure career to create something that reflected our values, allowed me to be more present for our kids, and aligned with my passion for sustainability.

And so, TravelTod® was born: a family business rooted in love, values, and the belief that little ones deserve the best. From eco-premium baby essentials to thoughtful parenting products, every item we create is designed to nurture both children and the planet.

The Reality of Being a Working Mom

Transitioning back to work or entrepreneurship when your little one is still small is hard. There’s the emotional tug of leaving your baby at home, the practical challenge of breastfeeding or pumping on schedule, and the constant mental load of juggling multiple roles. For many moms, the guilt and pressure are real — and unavoidable.

Here’s what we’ve learned navigating those early years:

1. Embrace Flexibility, but Set Boundaries
Whether you’re returning to a corporate job or building your own business, flexibility is key. But it’s equally important to define boundaries — when it’s family time, try to be fully present. Even small rituals like a bedtime story or morning cuddle can anchor your relationship with your little one.

2. Ask for Support
Partner support is invaluable, but don’t stop there. Family, friends, or a trusted childcare system can help you maintain sanity and productivity. Delegating doesn’t make you less capable; it makes the juggle sustainable.

3. Manage Expectations
You won’t do it all perfectly, and that’s okay. Some days will feel chaotic — missed deadlines, tantrums, and interrupted calls. Celebrate small wins, and remember that showing up for your kids and your work every day is already huge.

4. Build a Passion-Driven Business
If entrepreneurship is your path, let passion guide you. TravelTod was born from our desire to provide eco-premium, sustainable essentials while being present for our kids. That purpose keeps us motivated, even on the toughest days.

5. Self-Care Isn’t Selfish
Sleep, nutrition, and mental breaks may feel impossible with tiny humans around, but prioritizing yourself allows you to show up better for everyone else. Even five minutes of mindfulness, a short walk, or a quiet cup of tea can make a difference.

Regrets? Not at all.

Is it easy? NOT AT ALL.. And a learning happens EVERY single day. A mistake is done every week, a challenge is discovered.. an obstacle is faced.. but also joyful little ones are met so often in this journey. They keep us going.

Why It’s Worth It

Last weekend, we shared together TravelTod at an event with parents and parents-to-be. Standing together, seeing the joy on other parents’ faces, and sharing the story, selling premium essentials, speaking sustainability and more. It’s not just about a business — it’s about creating a legacy of love, values, and mindful parenting for our tiny treasures.

To all the working moms, parents juggling career and family, and entrepreneurs trying to make it all work: you are not alone. 🌸 Struggling with the work–mom juggle?
