From a Baby to a Toddler

While I’m boarding my first solo travel since my kids were born, I reflect on the amazing journey that babies go through to become toddlers. We didn’t stop travelling, we just changed our travel lifestyle to include them.  We got a 1 and a 2 year-old at home, 15 months apart - so one is still a baby, the other one has transitioned to toddlerhood. Travel for them is their largest excitement (well I guess for us all)- they are obsessed with luggages. Innocent, smart and naughty - they teach me so much everyday. Not only about how to raise them but about the journey of life.

Watching a baby grow into a toddler is like seeing a little miracle unfold right before your eyes. A learning for us parents every step of the way. This journey is full of exciting changes as babies learn new skills, become more independent, and start exploring their world.

Let’s take a fun look at this incredible adventure, and see how we can do it in a way that’s good for our planet too! Remember: every child is different, there is no right or wrong, there is no better or worst, they are smart little ones with their own life path. But, of course, they all need a parent’s help- someone to teach them, to inspire them, to guide them the way.

Moving and Grooving

1. Rolling and Sitting:

When babies are very young, they start by learning how to roll over and hold their heads up. Pretty soon, they’re sitting up on their own, ready to see the world from a whole new angle!

2. Crawling and Walking:

Crawling comes next, usually around eight to ten months. Babies use their hands and knees to move around and explore. Fun times - suddenly you find your little one under your chair! And then comes walking – those first wobbly steps that turn into confident strides. By the time they’re about one year old, many babies are toddling around, curious about everything! That’s when your house calls for baby-proofing!

 Learning and Talking

1. Exploring Everything:

As babies grow, their curiosity grows too. They want to touch, taste, and see everything. This helps their brains develop as they learn about the world. Make sure all those little pieces and toys are hidden far from them - children at that age are curious and will put everything in their mouths. We want it to be fun, so plan for it and prep the house to avoid any hazards!

2. First Words and Sentences:

Babies start making sounds and babbling around six months. Soon, those babbles turn into words like “mama” and “dada.” Before you know it, they’re stringing words together to tell you all about their day! Each day is a new learning, a new story-telling, make sure to follow their chatting, laugh with their stories and reward their new achievements ! I’m amazed by this time - when they are becoming toddlers and surprising us every day. Yesterday my 2 year old woke-up to say: “Mommy, the weather is nice, today is a sunny day! “ huh? How did he learn that. Simply Amazing.

Feelings and Friends

1. Bonding with Loved Ones:

Babies form strong bonds with those around them - mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, their caregivers... Lots of cuddles, smiles, and playtime help babies feel safe and loved, which is super important for their emotional growth. It’s a great time to create excitement for them - take them with you for a walk, let them join your morning coffee, invite them to discover the world more everyday.

2. Making Friends:

As they become toddlers, they start playing with other kids. They learn about sharing, taking turns, and being kind. It’s the start of lifelong friendships!

 Growing Green

Now parents, you got a really big job in this one: raising kids into a more sustainable Earth is a true obligation. We hope you can embark on this mission- let TravelTod help you if you have questions or want to share thoughts!

1. Eco-Friendly Play:

When choosing toys, go for ones made from sustainable materials like wood or recycled plastic. When choosing tethers, think about food grade silicone and beechwood. These are not only safe for babies but also better for our planet.

 2. Reuse and Recycle:

They will outgrow clothes and toys quickly. Instead of throwing things away, pass them on to other families or donate them. This way, you’re helping the environment and others too!

Little Challenges, Big Wins

Growing from a baby to a toddler isn’t always easy. There might be sleepless nights or fussy days, but each little challenge is a step towards growing up. Celebrate the small victories – like a new word or a first step – and enjoy the journey.

Helping Them Grow

To help your baby on their way to becoming a toddler, give them lots of love, patience, and encouragement. Create a safe space for them to explore, play, and learn. Read books together, play outside, and discover the wonders of nature – all while being kind to our planet.

So..

The journey from baby to toddler is full of magic and wonder. It’s a time of learning, exploring, and growing. By supporting this journey with love and making eco-friendly choices, we can ensure our little ones grow up happy, healthy, and ready to take on the world – while keeping our planet healthy too!
